When is the right time to begin piano lessons?
Every child matures differently and every family is unique;
there is no 'right' age. Young children usually need more daily
help and guidance than older children, although all children,
at all ages, need some degree of support and guidance. Furthermore,
the extent to which any student needs support will vary over
time. I, personally, prefer to start beginners somewhere within
the range of kindergarten and second grade, depending on the
child's musical, emotional, intellectual and physical readiness
as well as the willingness of the child's parents to provide
guidance and support. When meeting with prospective teachers,
ask if they have a preference for teaching a particular age
group or level.
