The Circus Collection is a collection of 8 original piano pieces ranging in ability from early intermediate to late intermediate by Donna Gross Javel. I consider Dmitri Kabalevsky's Clowns an intermediate level piece. The rhythmic and melodic qualities of these pieces really add to their appeal. Although their harmonies are fairly conservative, they do have some mild dissonances. One of the interesting features of The Circus Collection is that Circus Time! and Finale! contain themes and musical ideas from the other pieces in the collection. The Circus Collection is part of the Kaleidoscope Konzert Series.

"The collection is cleverly constructed, with fragments of the opening and closing selections (Circus Theme and Finale) recurring at other points in the piece. Students are encouraged to visit the Kids Corner of The Music Room on her AnythingPiano.com Website for hints on where to find all the fragments and themes. The Juggler, a lively little piece in duple meter, and Merry-Go-Round, in simple ABA form, beautifully depict two circus standards.
